JACK THE RIPPER

This is the final rule that affects game play. Jack the ripper is simply the Jack of the clone suit. In addition to its clone suit properties it has one additional affect. When it is played the winner of the trick must give that trick to the other team.

EXAMPLE: Trump is and therefore the clone suit is . The first player leads with the 9. The next player follows suit with the A and the third player plays the 3. The last player plays the J (a.k.a. 'Jack the Ripper). Since the J is the highest ranking card it would normally win the trick. But because it is Jack the Ripper the trick must be given to the other team.

Jack the Ripper (J) caused the winning player to lose this trick

ANOTHER EXAMPLE: Trump is and therefore the clone suit is . The first player leads with the A. The next player follows suit with the 6. The third player has no and therefore plays the 7 in an attempt to take the trick. The last player has no or and decides to play the J (a.k.a. 'Jack the Ripper'). The player who played the trump card would normally win the trick. In this case, because Jack the Ripper was played, the player who played the trump card has to give the trick to the other team.

Jack the Ripper makes the winner become the loser

Regardless of who gets to take the trick when Jack the Ripper is played, the player who played the highest ranking card still gets to lead the next round.

But remember that Jack the Ripper can freeze a round, also! For example, let's say that trump is and therefore the clone suit is . A player leads with the 5. The next player follows suit with the J. The third player plays the J (a.k.a. 'Jack the Ripper') thus freezing the round. The fourth player may now throw out any card he chooses. The frozen round gets set aside and a new round is started. However, since Jack the Ripper was used to freeze the round, whoever wins the next trick must give it up (including the previously frozen one) to the other team! This rule applies until someone finally wins the next trick.

Jack the Ripper froze this trick and whoever wins the next one will actually lose!
