THE RING

  The fog has lifted
The gloom has risen
The darkness flees
Revealing derision

A thousand angry
Unblinking eyes
Stare upon us
With mild surprise

Their mouths are frowning
Their teeth are gnashing
Their brows are furrowed
Their tongues are lashing

The focus of
Their heightened fear
Is one small ring
Of which she wears

It glimmers gold
And sparkles white
And makes our hearts
As one unite

The power of
This ring is great
It can bind in love
Or divide in hate

It exposes truth
And conceals lies
Makes those who hate
Sound helpless cries

This golden promise
Can't be undone
By anything
Or anyone

And all this power
Is contained
Within a ring
Somewhat mundane
